Introduction
Locals refer to this water source as "Sister Springs" or "Two-pipe Water." From 1923 during the Japanese colonial period until 2003, it provided an uninterrupted water supply for 80 years. During Japanese rule, water from these two springs—the "Big Sister" and "Little Sister"—was used to irrigate rice fields that produced tribute grain for the Japanese Emperor. The water was channeled into ponds and then distributed through canals to irrigate the surrounding fields.
